As the Editor, Sara Patterson selected the feature story about a teenager born with a nevus, or pigmented birthmark, whose life was transformed through its removal by a NorthShore plastic surgeon. While Sara works with several writers to produce each issue of the magazine, she wrote the articles about  a patient with tremors who opts for a life-changing procedure that implants  a pacemaker for his brain through the exceptional teamwork of NorthShore physicians and NorthShore’s  Outpatient Clinic at Evanston Hospital, which serves almost 5,000 patients annually for comprehensive medical service at little or no charge.

The Editor, Sara Patterson, wrote this feature story concerning a NorthShore orthopaedic surgeon who performs a surgical reconstruction of the spine for a woman with degenerative lumbar scoliosis that allows her to be fully functional once again. Other prominent stories that Sara selected for this issue include a NorthShore oncology patient who defies all odds and has survived several bouts of metastatic breast cancer through the skills of her physician team while continuing to play the French horn for the Chicago Symphony Orchestra; a 39-year-old patient who has a stroke while being examined and is saved in the nick of time by a NorthShore physician; and a longtime married couple who share everything together, including cancer treatments under the coordinated care of their NorthShore physicians. Sara interviewed this extraordinary couple that demonstrated their love and devotion to one another, as well as their exceptional care from a team of physicians at NorthShore.

As the Editor, Sara Patterson selected a feature story that involves the intervention of three NorthShore physicians to save the health and life of a young father with a tumor on his spine.

Sara wrote the story of a breast cancer patient who achieves the best health outcome by following an individualized program of care devised by NorthShore surgeons and physicians. Another story that Sara wrote for this issue is about a patient with severe sepsis whose life is saved by a NorthShore surgeon. A lifelong resident of Evanston, the patient’s life was saved twice by physicians at Evanston Hospital, when he was a baby and then when he was middle-aged.
